Refinish Wood Floor – Revamp while You Preserve

A good refinish wood floor should blend as closely with the old wood flooring as possible. Even if you choose the correct variety and species of the wood to match with your existent flooring, getting the exact tint of the old floor is really a major task. Sanding is not a good idea and should be avoided as much as possible. It not only makes the wood thinner and less durable, but also can severely damage your floor if you cannot handle the tricky sanding machines with care. Hence, a better way of refinishing wooden floors (like cork flooring) is thus recommended. This process can be termed as chemical refinishing or refurbishing of wooden flooring.

The wood flooring refinishes resulting from this process is not just easy but also a lot more inexpensive. It preserves much of the floor’s original characteristics, all the strength of the wood and enables the floor to provide proper protection. Before starting with the procedure of refinishing, you have to do some preparatory groundwork. However, the wooden floor should be repaired if necessary and vacuum cleaned before refinishing starts. Now wash the old parts of the wood flooring with water or a diluted solution of trisodium phosphate, using a very dry mop. Take care to see that none of the new wood is dampened. After the floor has dried for a day, go over it with a wax remover. If there are darker portions even after a couple of days, bleach them with oxalic acid.

Now mix lacquer thinner and denatured alcohol together. Pour it in a glass dish on a sunny day and start working in an obscure corner of the floor, strictly in the direction of the boards. As you work, the solution becomes darker. Now use this experienced mixture to mop all the new wood and watch it acquire the perfect blend of the older wood.
