Flooring Repair – Great Tips For Fixing Floors with a Difference
Flooring Repair is a work of extreme caution. Correct
planning also has a big role to play in repairing floors. The methods
for repairing floors depend on two factors - the type of the floor and
the extent of damage on the floor. As far as vinyl flooring is
concerned, repair generally consists of fusing the surface or patching
in new material. However, if the damage in the floor is widespread, the
tile has to be fixed. You should be aware that there is a great deal of
difference between a repair and a patch job. While a repair can blend
almost perfectly, a patchwork can be spotted from a mile away.
Hardwood floor repair needs time, patience, proper tools and the
knowledge of proper repairing techniques. For a damaged ¾” by two and ¼”
board or floor, you should use a circular saw set at a depth of ¾”. Take
two passes approximately ½” from each side of the board, also take
notice not to cut the end joints. The third cut is to be made at an
angle between the first two cuts, avoiding the side match. Use a sharp
chisel to remove the pieces. Select a straight piece of matching
flooring and cut the piece to its exact length. The board or floor can
be beveled with a miter saw. Now use a gun and a nozzle to apply glue in
the groove and on the tongue of the boards.
For repairing nail-down pre finished floors the same technique can be used. However selecting boards for fixing pre-finished doors is critical. After you successfully fix, use an edger and fine grit sandpaper to smoothen the area. There are color-coordinating pencils, colored fillers and colored burn sticks for repairing scratches, gaps and chips respectively on laminate floors. However, plank replacement is needed in severe cases.
